Pot Lights to Pendant Lights

Pot lights are awesome lighting for the kitchen. I always thought the more, the better. Then we moved into our current house and I changed my mind. They're awesome but I'd rather have something pretty to look at over the island. When we moved in, there were two pot lights where (in my opinion) pendant lights belong.

I thought I would have to just live with it since it would require a bit of work to uninstall them, patch the holes and then install new lights. I pushed the idea aside and worked on changing other things that didn't require as much effort. Then I found something really cool! Someone came up with a device to switch from pot lights to pendant lights and it's just the best.

First, you remove the lightbulb from the pot light.

Then you screw the device directly into the socket.

Next, you wrap the cord around the handle until you have the bottom of it at the height you'd like over the island.

Then you push the decorative plate up to cover the pot light fixture and screw the stopper into place. That's really all there is to it!

However, I couldn't just stop there! I could have purchased pendant globes from a store but the ones I liked were super expensive and the less expensive ones were super boring. I've seen some really creative lighting ideas and I just love when people use unconventional things to cover lights. After a lot of brainstorming and searching on some sights, I settled on some cute candle holders.

I like how well the gold works with the brown cabinets and yellow accents in my kitchen. All I had to do was cut a circle hole in the bottom.

Then I fastened it into place.

I love how they turned out!

I'm guessing the cords will straighten out with time and the weight of the fixtures. Next, I think I'll change out the baffle and trim on the other pot lights since they're an older looking almond color that I don't like. Then there's the light fixture over the kitchen table. Ah, there's so much to do, so little time and never enough money to do all of it.

Now, where's my socket wrench?
